/QUOTES FAMILY 'My dad was a preacher, he was an evangelist and he'd travel all over America doing revivals and stuff like that so that's how we grew up - in the cars going to all kinds of churches and stuff. It was like normal to us coz we didn't know anything else, but I mean, yeah, people are really interested in it.' 'My mom can't really understand the lyrics, so when I tell her about them she gets so sad she almost starts to cry... so I tell her to think of it as a movie or something.' 'I'm really scared about her reading the lyrics for our new record. She can't understand most of them on the first record, but God, she hates some of them. I think the C word pops up a could of times this time. That will break her heart. We're thinking about changing it...' 'Caleb's the middle child so he's always gonna be as different as possible from the eldest, I learned all about it in school. The oldest son is most likely to go to college and he did. The middle son doesn't need the approval from the parents the eldest did so he's most likely to drop out and he did. It fits perfectly, like you read in books. The youngest is going to try and be like one of the older brothers - he can go to college or drop out - I kinda dropped out.' MUSIC 'It’s called Youth and Young Manhood. My dad’s preaching bible is this old brown-leather thing. It’s so awesome looking. One day, we were looking through it. In the back, there was a tree of Moses’ life. There were all these branches and titles for each branch. The very first one was “Youth and Young Manhood.” There were no other possible names for the album - that was it.' 'It's kinda the same thing as in churches, like you're not really playing for people to think you're good, like by yourself, it's all about contributing to the music as a whole.' TOURING 'I swear to god, I don't think i've ever gone to bed in London before the sun has come up. Honestly, it's terrible.' 'I overheard some girl talking about which guys in bands she wanted to get with and she said "Matthew Followill, but not Jared, that'd be too weird". I don't understand. Why? Why is that too weird?' 'We get hotties in LA, San Fran, New York City... Chicago's my lucky city. I've never had a bad night in Chicago.' RANDOM 'We live on the same lake that Johnny Cash lives on but we’ve never seen him. I’d definitely freak out and maybe cry if I saw him. We went into a studio called Ocean Way the other day to finish the record, and Andy Griffith was recording some country gospel tunes. That was pretty awesome. It was like Matlock himself! It was cool. I shook his hand and was like, “Man, I’m a huge fan!” What do you say to somebody like Andy Griffith?' 'Just give me Debbie Harry and move on - she's all you need'. |
